不过，他也表示将由各州议会自行决定是否举行入籍仪式。
在 80 个市议会决定取消澳大利亚国庆日的公民入籍仪式后，人们的愤怒情绪日益高涨，此举暴露了围绕澳大利亚国庆日的激烈分歧。
反对者在社交媒体上表达了他们对放弃仪式的愤怒和失望，并指责议会迎合了少数人的观点，他们认为 1 月 26 日应该是对土著居民被剥夺财产表示哀悼的日子。
其他人则支持此举，认为过去除了澳大利亚国庆日，公民入籍仪式还在其他时间举行过。
